The Trough

Feeding the Body, Mind, and Soul

The Trough is our “friends and family” program that meets for six weeks in the fall and six weeks in the spring. Come for a free meal from 5:30-6:15 pm. Kids then have hands-on learning experiences and adults may select from a variety of short-term classes. BUM Youth also meets during this time, for kids in grades 6-12.  We end our night with energetic worship team accompaniment, and participants are on their way home at 7:30 pm.

The Spring Trough will be every Wednesday, February 3rd - March 24th!

Here are the Adult classes that will be available:

GOD'S ANSWERS TO LIFE'S DIFFICULT QUESTIONS:  Does God provide direction for everyday struggles such as stress, failure, confidence, significance, loneliness, and change?  Author Rick Warren (THE PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE) uses examples of biblical characters who faced the same issues, offering practical insights that will move you beyond your difficulties and change your outlook.

THE MISSION (1986):    Jeremy Irons plays a Spanish Jesuit who goes into the South American wilderness to build a mission in the hope of converting the Indians of the region. Robert DeNiro plays a slave hunter who is converted and joins Irons in his mission. When Spain sells the colony to Portugal, they are forced to defend all they have built against the Portugese aggressors.

A DAY WITH A PERFECT STRANGER…a sequel to the DINNER WITH A PERFECT STRANGER offered in the last Trough, but participants are not required to have read the first book. When her agnostic husband tells her a far-fetched story about dinner with Jesus, Mattie is clearly skeptical. Their marriage is already shaky. When she shares her worries with a sympathetic stranger seated next to her on the plane, he seems to know a lot about God---and Mattie's own past. Who is this man?

LORD, WHERE ARE YOU WHEN BAD THINGS HAPPEN? You never dreamed it would happen to you. You cry for help . . . but God doesn't seem to hear. Why? Chaos, tragedies, broken relationships--how could a God who is all-powerful, all-wise, and all-loving allow these things? And what about the wars, disasters, and plagues tearing the world apart? If God really is who He says He is, how can He let these things happen? Why doesn't He do something? In this book, the author will guide you to the answers through the book of Habakkuk, helping you know God, understand Him, and love Him more fully.

OVERCOMING BARRIERS: A class for those with special needs, these participants will be focusing on animals and a project to benefit animals in our community.
